JRH Giants
Five giants. Five treasures. One king. Five ancient giants now walk the overworld — rare, permanent, and at war with you and with each other.
Three Rules to Live By
- ◆Giants never despawn. That silhouette on the ridge will still be there tomorrow. Plan around it.
- ◆Anything a giant kills drops nothing — no loot, no experience. If a giant kills another giant, the loser’s treasure is gone. Land the kill yourself.
- ◆Giants of different types fight on sight. If you see two types near each other, find cover and enjoy the show.
Where and When They Appear
Giants belong to the overworld and nowhere else. You will never meet one in the Nether or the End, so those remain giant-free ground. In the overworld they keep no schedule: daylight is not safety, and four of the five can turn up at noon as readily as at midnight. Only the Storm Giant is bound to a condition, and his is weather rather than time.
The Pantheon

The Hill Giant
Hills, meadows, and forests · rare, always alone
A stocky brute that attacks nearly everything near him, so his territory becomes a dead zone. He ignores creepers and endermen, and never harms horses or sheep. He fights with heavy melee and a telegraphed ground pound that launches you. Below 30% health he speeds up; below 10% he flees and slowly heals, then returns at partial strength.
Counterplay: sprint out of the pound’s circle to dodge it, and chase him down if he runs.
Drops: the Deepslate Pickaxe — mines deepslate about twice as fast as a maxed netherite pick, and everything else like your bare hand. It cannot be crafted, enchanted, or repaired.

The Stone Giant
Peaks and windswept hills
Lean, fast, and patient. He sits motionless for minutes looking exactly like a mossy boulder, then throws arcing rocks at range and switches to fists up close. He is the fastest of the five.
Counterplay: keep moving sideways to dodge the boulders. Leave the bow at home — he is immune to every projectile, and to wood- and stone-tier weapons, which clink off harmlessly. Copper tier and above will land; so will your fists.
Drops: a full stack of emeralds, plus some stone.

The Frost Giant
Snowy biomes
Implacable. He does not flee, heal, or rage; he simply walks toward you at a steady pace. Every hit slows you, and every step freezes the water underfoot. He is immune to freezing and powder snow.
Counterplay: fire is your friend — he takes 50% bonus fire damage. Never trade blows, because each hit makes escaping the next one harder.
Drops: 64 blue ice, and the Frost Giant’s Spear — a diamond spear with Sharpness, Lunge, and Unbreaking.

The Fire Giant
The badlands · sometimes in pairs
A soot-black colossus in an iron war-helm, carrying a diamond axe, with ember cracks glowing through his skin. Shallow water evaporates around his feet, his axe sets you alight, and he is immune to fire and lava.
Counterplay: water is poison to him. Deep water and splash water bottles hurt him badly, snowballs sting, and he sinks and drowns fast. But a Fire Giant killed by water or drowning drops absolutely nothing — fight him on land if you want to be paid.
Drops: Cinderclaw — a diamond axe with a Fire Aspect that cannot legally exist on an axe — plus a gold hoard and enough iron for a bucket.

The Storm Giant
A white quartz castle that appears in the sky during thunderstorms
The king. He is sealed inside a hall he is too large to leave, and every creature flees his presence except golems. His lightning strikes wherever you stand, pierces armour, and cannot be outrun.
Counterplay: his lightning needs line of sight. Break his sightline behind a pillar and you live. Mining the floor out from under his castle simply drops a very angry, uninjured king to the ground.
Drops: diamond blocks, copper blocks, and the Storm Giant’s Wrath — a trident with Channeling.
The Sky Castle

A quartz fortress built high above the world on a jagged bed of cloud, with crenellated corner towers and a translucent underside that hides it against the sky. It appears during thunderstorms, and once it exists it stays — even after the king is dead. What is left behind is a monument you can loot and mine at your leisure.
Castles keep their distance from one another, so finding a second one means going a long way.
Quick Survival Reference
- ◆Hill — dodge the pound, chase the runner.
- ◆Stone — strafe the boulders, copper tier or better.
- ◆Frost — use fire, never trade hits.
- ◆Fire — use water and snowballs, but do not drown him.
- ◆Storm — fight from cover, never in the open.
Requirements
What you need
- ◆Minecraft Java 26.2 with Fabric
- ◆Fabric Loader 0.19.3 or later, Fabric API 0.155.2+26.2 or later
- ◆Java 25, on both client and server — giants use custom rendering
- ◆Optional companion: JRH Carpet & Creatures — its goblins and gnolls flee giants when both are installed
For Server Admins
- ◆Setting
mobGriefingto false disables the Fire Giant’s water evaporation and the Frost Giant’s ice forming. No giant ever breaks or burns blocks otherwise. - ◆Natural spawning is restricted to the vanilla Overworld. Spawn eggs and operator commands still work anywhere, so a giant can be placed deliberately for testing.
- ◆Operator commands let you census living giants, force-build a castle, and study spawn rates.
